Back to What is a Hernia?

Diagnosis of a hernia can be very straightforward when the hernia presents as a large protuberance through the muscles of the groin or through a previous incision. Many small hernias can be missed by an inexperienced examiner because they may be very subtle in appearance. Many patients for whom we are able to provide lasting relief come to us after previous unnecessary or unsuccessful hernia repair that resulted from an inaccurate or insufficiently specific diagnosis. Our ultrasound technologists have gained expertise in our ability to diagnose or rule out subtle or unusual hernias. At Center for Hernia Repair, our passion for perfection and our extraordinarily large clinical experience have strengthened our ability to accurately diagnose and treat the most complicated and unusual types of hernias.

The main reasons we fix hernias are:

  • Pain or discomfort.

  • Large hernias that may be at a higher risk of complications.

  • Incarceration (the contents of the hernia become trapped inside the wall of the hernia).

  • Strangulation (the contents of the hernia lose their blood supply due to prolonged incarceration).
